I hate when people base their pairings off if it’s sexy or not.
And suddenly if it isn’t sexy enough for them, it’s ‘boring’ and ‘not a good pairing.’ I let people ship what they want, but just because a couple isn’t constantly having sex doesn’t mean they aren’t a nice pairing, come on. My favorite ships are actually ones like Giripan and AsaKiku, the ones that tend to be called ‘boring’ the most. Come on, people. Sex doesn’t make a good pairing, just like it doesn’t make for a good couple irl. Actually, if all your relationship revolves around is sex, it’s usually considered a really dysfunctional and unhealthy relationship, because you have nothing else in common. So there’s that.

I hate FrUK. They’re ENEMIES in both the Hetalia-verse and real life, and are frenemies at best. I don’t understand why they would want to ever become a couple. Well, I can understand France wanting to, cause he’s FRANCE, but there’s no way England would ever feel the same way.

History changes too much to be a basis for pairings. It makes more sense to base it off of the fictional characters. Then there’s no need to go scraping for random bits of “canonizing” history and less risk of offending people of those nationalities.

I really don’t agree with how Himaruya said that the Revolutionary War was a ‘tough time’ between America and England.
At least, from what I’ve gathered from this part of America, we’re proud of that war. We fought tooth and nail, and it’s why we’re independent. That’s pretty much the first thing we teach our children when they first learn about history, along with the Civil War.
And, from what I’ve learned from my friends who live in Britain, they don’t give a fuck. They’ll respect it with statues of George Washington and whatnot, but quite frankly, they couldn’t care less about that war anymore.
I think that, rather than being saddened by the mention, America would start shoving it in England’s face, while England just tries to ignore him and drink tea. That seems like it’d be way more accurate.

I really don’t understand why RusAme is really popular. If you look at their history, they don’t have much to do with each other. Except for WWII and the Cold War (Which wasn’t even physically fought. It was more of an economic fight and the whole who-has-the-more-nukes kind of thing). So when people say THE COLD WAR WAS SEXUAL TENSION. No, it wasn’t. They did not FIGHT each other directly. They used Korea and Vietnam as their fighting grounds. Also, like FrUK, there is nothing but mutual hate between the two. As competing world powers, I doubt they have hot yaoi sex on the weekends.

I think having a OTP is actually silly. They can be immortal, and people change, they fall out of love or find themselves needing something different from a partner then what they have. Countries can be close for one human’s life time and then go south by the next generaton. Plus can’t they just be friends?

First off, I like Arthur and Feliciano together. I think this is a cute pairing when done right. Now that being said, I’ve only seen two characterizations of this pairing that don’t drive me nuts.
Feliciano’s, always Dark Italy, hounding on UK, biting him, hurting him, insulting him. I didn’t think that you needed a split personality to keep a pairing. In fact I don’t think that ever should happen. England’s, always somehow being pedos, and creeping on “Sweet” little Italy. These aren’t the two characters I grew up with in the Hetalia fandom. It never will be.
I’m all for shipping the pairing.
I’m not all for you butchering the characters because you think it makes a better pairing.
This applies to a lot of pairings, but right now, in my little corner of Rping, people are shipping this /hard./ I wouldn’t mind normally. But when I see Italy suddenly become Dark!Italy and tries to kick England and torture him, it’s like, “What the heck am I reading?” That isn’t Italy. Heck, that isn’t even Dark!Italy. That’s using the characters because you want a pairing.
England, wants some cute and ditzy little prey, and goes after him. Or, he wants to ‘punish’ Dark!Italy. I…don’t remember this as being even remotely canon. Not that I have a problem with people going out of canon of course, as long as they don’t abuse it. I don’t think England’s some creeper on the Italies. I don’t think he ever has been.
Please respect the characters. Please understand that not everyone’s going to like how a pairing is played. Don’t shove pairings in other people’s faces, and pretend it’s alright because they like the pairing. I’m honestly getting tired of seeing it. Which is sad, since I do like the pairing. Look, if you want to ship it, ship it.
But respect the characters that Hetalia has given us to pair up. There are many guilty pairings, that even I like that are guilty of this. So maybe, next time you come shoving a pairing at someone, just because they said they liked it, think about what they really like, non?

The Fandom can fight about “incest” pairings all it wants to, the real question is whether or not the people involved qualify for the Westermarck Effect. And I think alot of popular pairings (such as Spamo and UsUk) wouldn’t be possible because of the Westermarck Effect.

The Westermarck effect is a phenomenon which has been observed in individuals who spend large amounts of time with each other under the age of six. People who are raised together, regardless of relationship, tend to become desensitized to each other, and they will not generally develop sexual attraction to each other later in life. A variety of studies have supported the concept of the Westermarck effect.
