When I first started RPing Hetalia everyone was willing to RP with everyone else whether they had a forum pairing or not, and you’d find nations from completely different parts of the world finding things in common and making friends with each other. Then over time things started changing and it got harder and harder to plot with someone whose character was in an “official forum pairing”, let alone thread with them. On some forums I’m on people only RP with whoever their character is paired with and the rest of the characters and muns can DIAF for all they care. Then people wonder why RP forums die. Go figure. This is a massive problem in RPs when virtually everyone is in a pairing aside from minor characters who are forever alone (“forever alone characters” are a whole separate rant I won’t go into here or we’ll be here all day), and muns playing minor characters can’t get RP even if they post in every plotting thread going because all the other muns are busy making googly-eyes at their OTP. Those same muns won’t even consider forging relationships with characters outside of that OTP even if they’re related to each other (friends, “family”, etc.) in nation-based RP. It’s things like this that make people quit RPs and sometimes even RPing altogether because why should they make the effort to work hard writing the app and apply to the RP when no one will plot threads or RP with them? And newsflash, people like to use the cbox for chatting and plotting too, not watching two people RP with each other so much that eventually the pairing those two muns RP makes them want to hurl. Well, I can understand France wanting to, cause he’s FRANCE, but there’s no way England would ever feel the same way.

submission from crossovershipper: I hate when yaoi fans see a little moment of interaction between two contiries, and make porn art or porn fanfics based on that. i hate it also when they go commenting “country a/country b buttsex is so hawt!” serious so hetalia fans disgust me. i’m not a homphobe, i just can’t stand over-sexualized fanworks on tv shows,cartoons etc. that aren’t actually pornographic. yes i know hetalia has had some sexual humor, but there’s no actual sex scenes. anyway sex theme in this fandom is overused.

submission from arsenicazure: History changes too much to be a basis for pairings. It makes more sense to base it off of the fictional characters. Then there’s no need to go scraping for random bits of “canonizing” history and less risk of offending people of those nationalities.

Except for WWII and the Cold War (Which wasn’t even physically fought. It was more of an economic fight and the whole who-has-the-more-nukes kind of thing). So when people say THE COLD WAR WAS SEXUAL TENSION. No, it wasn’t. They did not FIGHT each other directly. They used Korea and Vietnam as their fighting grounds. Also, like FrUK, there is nothing but mutual hate between the two. As competing world powers, I doubt they have hot yaoi sex on the weekends.

Anon says: First off, I like Arthur and Feliciano together. I think this is a cute pairing when done right. Now that being said, I’ve only seen two characterizations of this pairing that don’t drive me nuts. Feliciano’s, always Dark Italy, hounding on UK, biting him, hurting him, insulting him. I didn’t think that you needed a split personality to keep a pairing. In fact I don’t think that ever should happen. England’s, always somehow being pedos, and creeping on “Sweet” little Italy. These aren’t the two characters I grew up with in the Hetalia fandom. It never will be. I’m all for shipping the pairing. I’m not all for you butchering the characters because you think it makes a better pairing. This applies to a lot of pairings, but right now, in my little corner of Rping, people are shipping this /hard./ I wouldn’t mind normally. But when I see Italy suddenly become Dark!Italy and tries to kick England and torture him, it’s like, “What the heck am I reading?” That isn’t Italy. Heck, that isn’t even Dark!Italy. That’s using the characters because you want a pairing. England, wants some cute and ditzy little prey, and goes after him. Or, he wants to ‘punish’ Dark!Italy. I…don’t remember this as being even remotely canon. Not that I have a problem with people going out of canon of course, as long as they don’t abuse it. I don’t think England’s some creeper on the Italies. I don’t think he ever has been. Please respect the characters. Please understand that not everyone’s going to like how a pairing is played. Don’t shove pairings in other people’s faces, and pretend it’s alright because they like the pairing. I’m honestly getting tired of seeing it. Which is sad, since I do like the pairing. Look, if you want to ship it, ship it. But respect the characters that Hetalia has given us to pair up. There are many guilty pairings, that even I like that are guilty of this. So maybe, next time you come shoving a pairing at someone, just because they said they liked it, think about what they really like, non?
